BURNING TOO CLOSE TO HOME: CALIFORNIA’S WAR ON WILDFIRES
HAVE YOU BEEN AFFECTED BY CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES — IN ANY CAPACITY?
I would love to hear your story.
"Burning Too Close to Home: California's War on Wildfires" is an immersive multimedia project that combines data visualization and narrative storytelling.
WHAT INITIALLY BEGAN AS A FINAL PROJECT FOR MY VISUALIZING DATA CLASS AT THE NEW SCHOOL IN 2021 QUICKLY TRANSFORMED INTO A PASSION PROJECT, DEEPENING MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROFOUND IMPACT OF CALIFORNIA'S CATASTROPHIC WILDFIRES.
GROUNDED IN THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF LOSING MY CHILDHOOD HOME TO THE 2018 WOOLSEY FIRE, "BURNING TOO CLOSE TO HOME" AIMS TO DELVE INTO THE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES OF WILDFIRES ON CALIFORNIA COMMUNITIES, SHEDDING LIGHT ON THE HUMAN TOLL INFLICTED BY THESE DISASTERS.
BY INTERWEAVING STATISTICS, DATA, AND MY OWN PERSONAL STORY, THIS PROJECT SERVES TO ENLIGHTEN AND GALVANIZE ACTION IN RELATION TO THE URGENT ISSUE OF CLIMATE CHANGE.
IN APRIL 2023, I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO PRESENT "BURNING TOO CLOSE TO HOME" AS A FEATURED PANELIST AT THE NEW SCHOOL’S ANNUAL DEAN’S HONOR SYMPOSIUM, WHERE I AM PURSUING A BA IN JOURNALISM AND DESIGN. BELOW YOU CAN FIND MY PROJECT SLIDE DECK AS WELL AS THE RECORDING OF MY PRESENTATION.
